Most of the reference sequences included in the well-established ARG databases have typically been identified in pathogenic and cultivable bacteria, which ignores the genes found in non-pathogenic and non-culturable bacteria. Functional metagenomics has been used to identify these missing ARGs, of which there are two gene collections that we are interested in: ResFinderFG 2.0 and ResFinderNG (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.07.23.550022v1).
During this presentation, I focused on how we are using the global sewage samples to investigate the different resistome profiles obtained by using ResFinder, ResFinderFG 2.0, or ResFinderNG.
