About Global Surveillance
Global Surveillance is the umbrella website for research projects and studies produced from the Research Group for Genomic Epidemiology, National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark.
The National Food Institute focuses on public health in relation to human nutrition, food safety, environment and health.
The Research Group for Genomic Epidemiology conducts research into the incidence, survival, and virulence of foodborne microorganisms and provides advisory services to international and national authorities regarding health risks related to the presence of pathogenic microorganisms.
The primary task of the research group is to conduct targeted research with the aim of predicting and preventing infectious diseases in humans and support global detection and control.
The research is concentrated on evolution, epidemiology, development, spread and persistence of infectious agents, with a special focus on antimicrobial resistance. Studies on the spread of bacteria and resistance genes globally within and between the animal and human population are conducted. The molecular mechanisms of the global epidemiology and infectious process are elucidated. The occurrence and evolution of resistance genes are determined. Methods and strategies for prevention of diseases are developed.
